What I’m Wearing: Scarf Print Pant

Hey y’all! I hope every is enjoying their Tuesday. I just found out that I’m getting a three day weekend and that’s definitely something to be happy about. I’m so grateful for all the love my last two posts have been given. I think of myself as a style chameleon as I can go from boho chic to prep and it’s all just different parts of my personality. I honestly think I just mesh them well.

I think today’s outfit showcases a bit of both.

I loved these scarf print wide legs pants the minute I laid eyes on them! They’re from Forever 21 and were $27.90, but I got them maybe 2 years ago. I’ve been on the hunt for a similar pair, but I’ve come up short. They’re very boho chic! When I dress myself, I follow basic rules of proportion and garment shape.

If I’m wearing a loose top I generally pair it with skinny bottoms and if I’m wearing a fitted top I can pair that with a wider bottom. It all kinda depends on the garment and the look I’m going for. What I ultimately try to avoid is the Dorothy Zsbornak look. You know? Dorothy from The Golden Girls!

I don’t want to get lost in a sea of fabrics and shoulder pads and cowl necks and gaucho pants! Especially since I’m so small. I kinda thought I’d run into that issue with this top and pant combo, but I was pleasantly surprised. I did debate doing several shades of blue with the top, pant, and shoes but I opted against it and kept it clean and classic.

My top is from The Limited and it’s actually a size too big, but there were no XS available and we only had the 1 Limited store (but now we have none and that sucks)😒 My jewelry is simple and I love bangles so I might’ve overdosed LOL. Alex&Ani on the right and Old Navy on the left wrist; Juicy Couture around the neck and in the ears; sandals from Forever 21.

Well, that’s it! Hope y’all enjoyed!

What I’m Wearing: Tie Waist Jersey Dress

Hey y’all! It’s Monday and I know a lot of us are dreading another work week especially if your weekend just flew by, but think of it this way: you’ve got 4 more days until the weekend starts again. Well, 3 depending on where you work as we’ve got another holiday approaching.

I know I said I would get into a post about prints, but my weekend was so busy and I was just too tired. I’ll try to put one together either today or tomorrow. I know it’s an important topic to tackle and it’s a pretty big deal, but I promise I’ll get to it soon!

Now, on to my OOTD!

I got this cute jersey tie front dress from Forever 21 for $15.90! I picked it up a few months ago and today’s the first time I’ve worn it. I initially wanted it in black, but they were sold out. I did get an e-mail that it was back instock, but I’m not sure if they have any more. So if you like it, you should check their site ASAP!

When I saw the dress in black it was styled with a baseball cap and sneakers and I was instantly reminded of Rihanna’s versatile sense of style. I wanted to dress this down with a pair of Chuck Taylor’s, but guess who doesn’t own a pair? Who has NEVER owned a pair? If your guess was me, then you’re 100% accurate. Well, I did have a pair, but they were a size too small and I was trying to be cute LOL I got away with wearing them barely tied, but I’d sprained one of my feet pretty badly and they weren’t helping the pain. smh don’t judge me for trying to be fashionable in the early 2000s 😏

So, Chucks are definitely on my Must Buy list and I want to mix casual and dressy on my next wear of this dress. My necklace is from Charlotte Russe and it was $5 as their jewelry is usually 2 for $10. My sandals are Coach and were a gift.  So, my outfit looks really chic and moderate to expensive, but it’s really not–$20 or so without factoring in the designer sandals.

Hope that gave you some outfit ideas or even some styling ideas and if it did, then I was glad to help! 😊

What I’m Wearing: Sequins

Hey y’all! Today has been a very busy day for me. I’ve been up since 7 am on a Saturday! I got up early to attend a natural hair show and then I had to turn around and get ready for a wedding. I’ve been on my feet consistently since 9:30 this morning and I just want to rest! Right now, I’m writing this piece at the reception.

I had to show off my ‘fit since I hardly ever go out and get dressed up!

I’ve been saving this skirt for years! Literally had this since maybe 2011 or 2012 and I just took the tags off. I got it from New York&Company and as cute as it is, it’s driving me nuts! It keeps snagging my blouse 😩 Reminder to self: stop forgetting that sequins and chiffon don’t mix! I just got this blouse from Forever 21 and this is probably my last wear.

I still look cute, though! 😉

Charleston Strong

Hey y’all! Today was the day we laid Reverend Senator Clementa Pinckney to rest. As you all know by now, he was the pastor of Emanuel AME where he and 8 other members of his flock were murdered simply for being black. I hope that sounded as ridiculous to you as it did to me. I still can’t seem to wrap my mind around the “logic” that would lead to something like that.

Today a lot of citizens of the great state of South Carolina honored them by wearing navy and white (our state flag’s colors) and other memorabilia honoring their lives and our city’s strength and love.

My $10 Palmetto State tee is from Palmetto Moon. I wasn’t able to get a “Charleston Strong” tee to wear today as they’re selling out left and right, but Palmetto Moon has reupped stock and taking preorders for shipping next week.

The Charleston Strong tee comes in navy and white and is sold in unisex sizes, the cost is $10 and all proceeds–that’s 100%–go to the Mother Emanuel Fund.

There are lots of other shirts out there with proceeds going to the Mother Emanuel Fund, but I love the quality of Palmetto Moon’s shirts. I’m going to leave this here as the rest of my OOTD is honestly irrelevant.

God Bless

What I’m Wearing: Statement Pant

Hey y’all! We’re getting closer to Friday and I’m super excited about sleeping in late Saturday morning! I can’t get too comfortable since I’m going to a wedding that afternoon, but sleeping past 6 am is soooo satisfying! Today has been nice so far as its cooler and the humidity is behaving, so I’m comfortable in a little more fabric on my body and in actual shoes.

I actually had a bit of a debate this morning with my accessories. I realized that my silver stock is very low. I have one necklace and a set of bangles (leaf related, btw) and the only earrings I have are hoops and pretty large cubic zirconias LOL! I believe it’s time to diversify my collection. It’s important to have a good mix of metals in your accessory collection.

Anyway, on to my OOTD!

Smizing is so obviously not working for me smh but I try, God knows I do 😂

My gray doleman top and navy/gray striped skinny crops are from GAP while my ankle strap flats and leaf accessories are from Forever 21. I got the pants and top (also have it in navy) last year and I think I spent between $20-$25 for all three items.

I love printed pants and I think I read somewhere that the “fad” is going away. Uh, here’s the thing: some prints are timeless and are a good investment. Try looking for prints that aren’t too busy as sometimes the busier it is, the more tacky it looks and comes across as cheap. Also, with any printed piece try to pair it with something simple. If you’re not ready for print mixing, DO NOT ATTEMPT IT!

I can’t say that enough. Mix your prints with solids if you’re not ready for the next step LOL! There are some prints–like leopard print–that’s a neutral. It can be worn with literally anything! The only thing is, you have to pick the right leopard print! It’s tricky, but look for prints where the spots aren’t too close together and the traditional colors are strong. Don’t go for faded prints and definitely not the cheapest looking print.

I think I’ll go more into this concept over the weekend. It’s worth its own post. Well, thanks for letting me share with you! Hope you like my ‘fit and got some helpful info. Enjoy your day!
