Weighted Blanket and Chill

I’m sure y’all have heard of weighted blankets at this point, so there’s no point in concocting a cute opening to this post. Weighted blankets are honestly the greatest thing since sliced bread. I’m so serious. GREATEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD.

If you’re a person who rarely gets a good nights sleep, why don’t you have a weighted blanket? It calms anxiety and it feels like you’re being wrapped in the arms of an angel. I currently have a 15 lb. blanket and the first night with it was heavenly. It’s honestly hit or miss for me at this point, as I still find a way to toss and turn. I plan on graduating to a 20 lb. blanket soon. I will say, generally, it takes me no time at all to fall asleep once I’m under my blanket. Also, getting up and out of bed in the morning is no longer something I dread.

I wake up and I’m not tired or in a terrible mood. I can truly hop up out my bed and turn my swag on. No lie. It really has been a great investment, but there are a few things you should prepare yourself for if you’re looking to get one. Cost is a factor for a lot of reasons. I paid around $80 for mine and it came with a duvet cover. There’s no cooling effect or anything, so I sweat; however, the sweat isn’t solely from the blanket, but I’m on a meditation that causes me to sweat in my sleep. I try to keep my house fairly cool at night to counteract it. At this point, the more you pay for a weighted blanket, the more luxuries you’ll more than likely get.

It’s suggested that you get a blanket that’s 10% of your body weight, but it really just boils down to preference. If I’d gone by the 10% suggestion, I should’ve gotten a 12 lb. blanket. With a 15 lb. blanket I know I need to move up to the next weight increment, so a 12 lb. one wouldn’t have done a single thing to improve my sleep or mood. Again, it’s really all about preference and for me heavier is better.

Warning, though, you will sleep once you get situated. When I say sleep, I mean SLEEP sleep. Get under your blanket with expectations to take a nap and you’ll end up with another 8-10 hours under your belt. Time will disappear. You will have the best sleep of your life, but you could lose a day or two of productivity in the process. Sometimes, it’s worth it; I’m not even going to front, you just need that rest.

In conclusion, get you a weighted blanket. Weighted blanket responsibility, though. Yes, I made it a verb. Do your research, work out your budget, set your alarms, and sleep your best sleep. I’m gonna step my pillow game up and see if that helps with the tossing and turning, but this blanket really has made me realize how important a good nights sleep is. It really makes you reevaluate your mattress, cushioning, bedding—Bruh, it makes you adult in ways you never cared to adult.

I’m a believer…and an adult. I’ll take weighted blanket and chill over any activity you could suggest to me at this point. IDC. A good nights sleep?! You don’t have to ask me twice.
