2018: Life+Style Goals and Improvements

Hey y’all, happy new year!

I’m not a “new year, new me” person but I’m all about improving. It’s been about a year since I’ve knowingly stopped eating meat and this year I’m striving to improve my awareness. I’m also implementing more natural products into my lifestyle. I’ll hopefully be doing more reviews of the natural products I try. I’m not trying to sway anyone to my way of life, but maybe I can answer questions or ease the skepticism of anyone who may be on the fence.

One of the things I hope to accomplish this year is to visit more vegetarian/pescatarian/vegan friendly restaurants in Charleston. I’m all about trying new things, so this should be a fun goal to fulfill. This weekend I visited the new location of one of my favorite places–Dellz on the Macon! Dellz is family owned and operated and has some of the best food I’ve ever had. They serve up a great combination of good, healthy food with robust flavor. It’s feel good food with friends because it’s a small and cozy environment.

Ireana of XOXO, I. Joelle and I had a great meeting over their Dellz Nachos (with meatless meat crumbles).

This was her first time trying Dellz and I think I’ve got her addicted to their fresh, vegan chocolate chip cookies. Those cookies are honestly heaven on earth!

We also ran into the homie, KJ Kearney, who dropped some real business knowledge. This year needs to be more about coming together, finding, and securing all the bags we can. Shout out to KJ’s mom, Miss Karen, for also putting us on to some new ways to put ourselves out there!

Dellz on the Macon really is full of magic. It’s a melting pot of good food, good music, good people, and good vibes. Pay what you can and pay it forward–they’re all about putting good karma out into the universe. The Macon couldn’t have gained a better new gathering place.

What would this outing and this post be without outfit details? I finally got a chance to break out my new dress from the Tracee Ellis Ross for JC Penney collection! Amazing fit and quality and I’m so sad the collection isn’t permanent! My wardrobe needs more from Tracee!

Dress: TER 4 JCP $34 (currently on a limited time sale $18.99 😱)

Denim Jacket and Bangles: Old Navy (personalized by moi)

Belt Bag and Earrings: Forever 21 $15.80

Boots: Arizona (JCP) $19.99

Small Business Saturday Deal

Hey y’all! I know it’s Shop Small Business Saturday and there are so many great local businesses to patronize, but I saw a great deal that would be great for anyone who was a fan of the bangles I posted awhile back. I got three (Moon&Lola xBourbon&Boweties bangles that showcased my love of my state/hometown that also tied into my love of palm trees and pineapples from a cute little boutique called Two Cumberland on King Street in downtown Charleston.

Remember these?

Well, Two Cumberland has a great deal on them today for Small Business Saturday!

They’re $34 each, so I’d definitely take advantage of this deal!! They come in standard and large sizes (personally, the standard is a little big for my tiny wrists so they work for everyone!). Hope this helps anyone who was eyeing these, but thought them to be a bit pricey 😉

State Arm Candy

Hey y’all! I know it’s been awhile since my last written post, but I’m working on improving things–mainly, me. I’m not going to get into anything, but I really want to get this blog on the right path at the start of the new year and change starts from within, right?

Right!

So, my main goal with this blog is showing off my ability to look pulled together and stylish on a super tight budget; however, there are times when you just have to treat yo’self! Who doesn’t live by the advice of Tom Haverford and Donna Meagle?! (And if you get the reference, then you’re definitely following the right blog!) In following that key piece of life advice, I was actually treated to a late birthday gift where I opted for more arm candy.

I have an ongoing love affair with Alex&Ani bangles (and bangles in general), but this time I went with something different. I thought, how else could I show my love for my home and my favorite things but with the Moon&Lola x Bourbon and Boweties collaboration bangles?! I love being from Charleston (the unofficial capital of the great state of South Carolina), I love palm trees, and I love pineapples! All things indicative of where I’m from and now I can wear them just about everywhere I go.

The South Carolina disc is navy blue–the color of the state flag and one of my personal favorites–and plays well with the gold bangle and accents. There are more than many faults here in South Carolina, but it’s my home and I love living in the part of the state where it doesn’t snow and where there are at least 3 beaches and great shopping!

The palm tree–the state tree–disc is in blonde tortoise. I love palm trees as they absolutely remind me of home and they give me comfort. Not just part of a beach town, but parts of church rituals like Palm Sunday before Easter. Seeing them come to life in Spring and give personality to the sidewalks and shade on sunny days–it makes me happy to live here!

Pineapples may not be out state’s official fruit, but it symbolizes the hospitality that Charleston so readily offers. There’s a big pineapple fountain at Waterfront Park and I honestly can’t think of anything more welcoming while exploring the Holy City. Aside from being the symbol of hospitality, they’re delicious and my favorite fruit! I could literally eat it every day and never complain!

I scored these amazing bangles from Two Cumberland (which is quickly becoming my new favorite boutique!) on King Street–a smidge past Forever 21 near the corner of Market Street. I actually ordered them online because it just saves you the hassle of finding parking AND they don’t charge for shipping! I love it! These bangles were $34 each and well worth it. Big statement makers and undeniably cute! If you’re gonna check out Two Cumberland’s website, make sure you look for the super soft and comfy Y’ALL tee!

It was maybe $20 and I seriously want to live in it! It’s the best t-shirt I own and well worth the price! I promise you, you’re going to absolutely fall in love with Two Cumberland, so don’t say I didn’t warn you 😉 Try not to go for broke!

What I’m Wearing: Stripes

Hey y’all! Today’s ootd features two of my favorite things: stripes and tank tops! Actually, it’s a racerback top buy it still falls into the tank top category. It’s a casual day for me and it’s still pretty hot so I figured I’d throw on some ankle jeans and an easy breezy top.

If you live in Charleston, then you know how tanks are essential. More than essential, they’re mandatory! Even when the temperature says it’s 80 degrees out, the humidity kicks it up to 95! The last thing you want are perspiration stains on your top when you’re strolling down King Street. It’s never a good look. Even your strongest antiperspirant can’t withstand Charleston summers; so it’s very important to have climate appropriate gear.

My red and white horizontal striped racerback tank gives a very nautical (another thing I love!) and a bit of a patriotic vibe. It’s lose fitting, which is great, but not so much so that it appears tent like. It stays close to the body and lays nicely. I paired it with a really nice and light shade of blue ankle jeans. Both the top (similar) and jeans are from Forever 21

With this outfit I tossed on my navy blue Toms, my Juicy Couture palm tree hoops (similar), Alex&Ani bangles, and my new Pandora bangle with palm tree charm!

What I’m Wearing: T-Shirt Maxi Dress

Hey y’all, it’s Thursday! And it’s pretty darn hot out here! I’m not complaining because I truly hate winter, but WHEW this humidity is in full effect. My hair’s swelling up by the minute and I like it 😎

It’s probably not the best day to wear a maxi dress, but I love them and you have to endure the elements for fashion and style!

My t-shirt style maxi dress is from Old Navy, the cardi is from Ann Taylor Loft, my Coach sandals were a gift, the necklace is from Forever 21, the thicker bangles are from Old Navy, and the thinner bangles are my trusty Alex&Ani! The dress is pretty broken in, it might’ve been $30 when I bought it. The cardi is broken in as well, but it was on sale when I bought it–less than $20.

Well, this was a simple update! Hope you guys are enjoying these posts as much as I’m enjoying doing them! Have a great day!
