2018: Life+Style Goals and Improvements

Hey y’all, happy new year!

I’m not a “new year, new me” person but I’m all about improving. It’s been about a year since I’ve knowingly stopped eating meat and this year I’m striving to improve my awareness. I’m also implementing more natural products into my lifestyle. I’ll hopefully be doing more reviews of the natural products I try. I’m not trying to sway anyone to my way of life, but maybe I can answer questions or ease the skepticism of anyone who may be on the fence.

One of the things I hope to accomplish this year is to visit more vegetarian/pescatarian/vegan friendly restaurants in Charleston. I’m all about trying new things, so this should be a fun goal to fulfill. This weekend I visited the new location of one of my favorite places–Dellz on the Macon! Dellz is family owned and operated and has some of the best food I’ve ever had. They serve up a great combination of good, healthy food with robust flavor. It’s feel good food with friends because it’s a small and cozy environment.

Ireana of XOXO, I. Joelle and I had a great meeting over their Dellz Nachos (with meatless meat crumbles).

This was her first time trying Dellz and I think I’ve got her addicted to their fresh, vegan chocolate chip cookies. Those cookies are honestly heaven on earth!

We also ran into the homie, KJ Kearney, who dropped some real business knowledge. This year needs to be more about coming together, finding, and securing all the bags we can. Shout out to KJ’s mom, Miss Karen, for also putting us on to some new ways to put ourselves out there!

Dellz on the Macon really is full of magic. It’s a melting pot of good food, good music, good people, and good vibes. Pay what you can and pay it forward–they’re all about putting good karma out into the universe. The Macon couldn’t have gained a better new gathering place.

What would this outing and this post be without outfit details? I finally got a chance to break out my new dress from the Tracee Ellis Ross for JC Penney collection! Amazing fit and quality and I’m so sad the collection isn’t permanent! My wardrobe needs more from Tracee!

bringing a little BK to CHS

Hey y’all! So, remember my last post about my pre-black Friday finds? Therein I said that I should show the entire outfit put together? Photo shoot style? Well, I accomplished a goal! I had my own solo photo shoot with the amazingly talented Jennifer Collins!

It was a crazy and windy day on the waterfront, but we managed to make magic and make a part of downtown Charleston look like a little slice of Brooklyn. The greatest feat accomplished was that as a person who’s always cold, I didn’t show it! I sniffled a time or two, but I didn’t let the weather faze me. I was strong and confident and Jennifer made me look amazing!

Showing Local Love

Hey y’all!

A few weeks ago I talked about how I wanted to start spotlighting local boutiques. What I’m truly interested in is introducing y’all to local people, great style, and (most importantly) affordability. I, like most of y’all, don’t have unlimited funds so it’s important to find quality pieces that are cost effective. There honestly aren’t many resources for this–especially in Charleston, since everyone thinks we all live as lavishly as the cast of ‘Southern Charm.’ I love that show, but the South of Broad crowd is slim.
(Thanks to Ireana of XOXO, I. Joelle for the cute graphics!)

So, every Wednesday (hopefully) I’ll bring to you the fabuless boutique of the week! If you have any suggestions or if you have a boutique you’d like me to spotlight, e-mail me: nikki@lookfabuless.com! Check back tomorrow for the first feature!

State Arm Candy

Hey y’all! I know it’s been awhile since my last written post, but I’m working on improving things–mainly, me. I’m not going to get into anything, but I really want to get this blog on the right path at the start of the new year and change starts from within, right?

Right!

So, my main goal with this blog is showing off my ability to look pulled together and stylish on a super tight budget; however, there are times when you just have to treat yo’self! Who doesn’t live by the advice of Tom Haverford and Donna Meagle?! (And if you get the reference, then you’re definitely following the right blog!) In following that key piece of life advice, I was actually treated to a late birthday gift where I opted for more arm candy.

I have an ongoing love affair with Alex&Ani bangles (and bangles in general), but this time I went with something different. I thought, how else could I show my love for my home and my favorite things but with the Moon&Lola x Bourbon and Boweties collaboration bangles?! I love being from Charleston (the unofficial capital of the great state of South Carolina), I love palm trees, and I love pineapples! All things indicative of where I’m from and now I can wear them just about everywhere I go.

The South Carolina disc is navy blue–the color of the state flag and one of my personal favorites–and plays well with the gold bangle and accents. There are more than many faults here in South Carolina, but it’s my home and I love living in the part of the state where it doesn’t snow and where there are at least 3 beaches and great shopping!

The palm tree–the state tree–disc is in blonde tortoise. I love palm trees as they absolutely remind me of home and they give me comfort. Not just part of a beach town, but parts of church rituals like Palm Sunday before Easter. Seeing them come to life in Spring and give personality to the sidewalks and shade on sunny days–it makes me happy to live here!

Pineapples may not be out state’s official fruit, but it symbolizes the hospitality that Charleston so readily offers. There’s a big pineapple fountain at Waterfront Park and I honestly can’t think of anything more welcoming while exploring the Holy City. Aside from being the symbol of hospitality, they’re delicious and my favorite fruit! I could literally eat it every day and never complain!

I scored these amazing bangles from Two Cumberland (which is quickly becoming my new favorite boutique!) on King Street–a smidge past Forever 21 near the corner of Market Street. I actually ordered them online because it just saves you the hassle of finding parking AND they don’t charge for shipping! I love it! These bangles were $34 each and well worth it. Big statement makers and undeniably cute! If you’re gonna check out Two Cumberland’s website, make sure you look for the super soft and comfy Y’ALL tee!

It was maybe $20 and I seriously want to live in it! It’s the best t-shirt I own and well worth the price! I promise you, you’re going to absolutely fall in love with Two Cumberland, so don’t say I didn’t warn you 😉 Try not to go for broke!

Happy 4th!

Hey y’all! I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday! I just came in from brunch at 82 Queen and a bit of shopping/strolling down King Street. It’s such a nice day out and everyone’s extremely festive. I saw a guy in American flag printed shorts, a white button down, and an American flag bow tie–his commitment to a theme and a holiday are unparalleled!

After all our city has been through lately, it’s nice to see everyone out and about still being generally friendly and happy. On a personal note, I’d been obsessing over Lilly lately. Lilly who? Lilly Pulitzer, of course. I’d always appreciated it in passing, but after I was somehow (and I still don’t know how the hype took over me) swept up in the Lilly for Target pandemonium–I’ve been in love ever since.

I really REALLY wanted one particular dress and after stalking and stalking and weighing the pros and cons, I decided to finally get it. You know what happened when I hit refresh on that idle Safari tab? They were sold clean out of the darn dress in my size 😩!

The closest Lilly retailers to me are the Belk’s in Mt Pleasant and a Palm Avenue store on King Street. The actual Lilly Pulitzer store is in Kiawah and I’m just not driving that far on a beach holiday. Nope, not gonna do it. I’m just going to wait and see if they do the ‘still want it?’ option after they’ve sold out completely. But on the bright side, I needed a new wallet/cell phone wristlet and I walked away with this:

That’s right, $15.20 and it holds my phone, cards, and has an outside ID holder. Right up my alley in efficiency and price! So, something nice came out of this day and it’s something to be grateful for. I think I’m going to wrap this up with an obligatory OOTD pic.

Forever 21 is where I got the cream colored v-neck t-shirt, heart lariat (necklace), and sandals. The boyfriend shorts are from GAP
