2018: Life+Style Goals and Improvements

Hey y’all, happy new year!

I’m not a “new year, new me” person but I’m all about improving. It’s been about a year since I’ve knowingly stopped eating meat and this year I’m striving to improve my awareness. I’m also implementing more natural products into my lifestyle. I’ll hopefully be doing more reviews of the natural products I try. I’m not trying to sway anyone to my way of life, but maybe I can answer questions or ease the skepticism of anyone who may be on the fence.

One of the things I hope to accomplish this year is to visit more vegetarian/pescatarian/vegan friendly restaurants in Charleston. I’m all about trying new things, so this should be a fun goal to fulfill. This weekend I visited the new location of one of my favorite places–Dellz on the Macon! Dellz is family owned and operated and has some of the best food I’ve ever had. They serve up a great combination of good, healthy food with robust flavor. It’s feel good food with friends because it’s a small and cozy environment.

Ireana of XOXO, I. Joelle and I had a great meeting over their Dellz Nachos (with meatless meat crumbles).

This was her first time trying Dellz and I think I’ve got her addicted to their fresh, vegan chocolate chip cookies. Those cookies are honestly heaven on earth!

We also ran into the homie, KJ Kearney, who dropped some real business knowledge. This year needs to be more about coming together, finding, and securing all the bags we can. Shout out to KJ’s mom, Miss Karen, for also putting us on to some new ways to put ourselves out there!

Dellz on the Macon really is full of magic. It’s a melting pot of good food, good music, good people, and good vibes. Pay what you can and pay it forward–they’re all about putting good karma out into the universe. The Macon couldn’t have gained a better new gathering place.

What would this outing and this post be without outfit details? I finally got a chance to break out my new dress from the Tracee Ellis Ross for JC Penney collection! Amazing fit and quality and I’m so sad the collection isn’t permanent! My wardrobe needs more from Tracee!

the fabuless edition: what I wore

Hey y’all! Friday evening I made an appearance at the grand opening of Maris DeHart! I get off from work at about 4 and everything started at 5, so that meant I’d get there after 6–you know how parking is set up in this city. After my fourth time around the block I almost gave up, but I lucked out and found a spot on the street.

This weather, man. It’s hot! And I usually don’t complain about the heat, but man. It’s hot. I’m make up free, just trying to improve my skin and whatnot so I’m all about a bare face mostly because low maintenance. Literally, ain’t nobody got time for that! It’s hot, Money!

I tried (yet again) to keep it light and breezy, but Mother Nature hit me with a Kid Fury style “okay, Girl.” I went with (yet again) a maxi dress and tied a denim shirt around my waist just in case my cold natured tendencies kicked in.

They didn’t. Not even a little bit. Not even at all. But I was cute, though!

My dress is from Old Navy and I’ve had it for years–I think it was $35. The denim shirt is from Express and was on sale for $27. The sandals and LOVE key necklace are both from Forever 21 and combined was less than $20.

Wish List Like Woah

Hey y’all! Can I be real with y’all for a minute? Do you ever shop irresponsibly? Buying things you want and knowing you shouldn’t because you have bills and adult type responsibilities?

I’m not about that life. That’s why I have a style for less blog. I admire bloggers who dress well and have ridiculously nice and expensive things. I want to spend hundreds of dollars on dresses and shoes and bags, but the way my bank account is set up–

I occasionally have bouts of shopping guilt. I’m a good person, I work hard, live responsibly, and doggone it I deserve nice things! Treat yo’self, right?! That’s right, I’m going into Palm Avenue and I’m buying that Lilly Pulitzer dress I’ve been stalking!

I’ll go in (and occasionally feel like they’re either ‘watching’ me or judging me for being broke–also, I’m not broke! I’m just responsible!) and look around and once I even tried something on because that was the day I was going to buy it.

My conscience said, “girl if you don’t get!” So, I got. Yep, I got all the way out of there. For some reason my brain just won’t let me spend $100 on a dress. Even if I budget it into that week  or that month my brain is not having it.

So, I wish list it. I love a Lilly Pulitzer e-mail urging me to visit their site. I ooh and ah and envision myself in the dress or outfit I’ve stalked and then I go look at the things I can actually afford–notebooks, pens, stationary, cups…you see where I’m going. I’d like to stick to the rivers and the lakes that I’m used to, but occasionally I like to chase waterfalls.

One day.

What I’ve done here is compile my Lilly Pulitzer wish list–I mean, I do have a birthday coming up extremely soon, after all. How can you deny the colors and the prints of LP?! It’s slightly obnoxious, but I’m southern! It’s what we live for.

Top: Beacon t-shirt dress $98, Ophelia swing dress $178, Georgia May palazzo pants $138, and Reid crop top and skirt set $198. Bottom: UPF 50+ Sophie dress $138, Piper pull-on ankle pants $138, Marlowe boatneck dress $98 (both print and stripe).

Y’all see those prices, right? Right now they’re not for me. One day, I tell you–ONE DAY, I’m going to just do it. No guilt. No remorse. I’m just going to buy the expensive dress and not beat myself up about it.

Judge your mother.

the fabuless edition: what i wore

Hey y’all! It’s a bit late in the week, but I just wanted to show off the cute tye dye dress I got from House of Sage a little while back! I made my first farmers market appearance of the year and I did it quite stylishly. If you’re following my SnapChat (sn: lookfabuless) shenanigans, then you saw this look in action.

From my last post featuring stylish beach/summer looks I professed my love of single colored tye dye. This dress is pure ❤️ and I’m kinda mad at myself for not going back and procuring all the other colors! The slits give great movement, it’s comfy, drapey, and it has pockets! POCKETS! Dresses with pockets are just everything! This piece of bohemian greatness was $44 from House of Sage.
They were my first fabuless boutique of the week and you can read all about it here.

I paired the dress with layered gold necklaces. I got the two shorter ones from Stox&Co during our Blogger’s Night Out event last week. The round one says ‘Be Brave’ and was $22. The imperfect rectangle was $28 and they looked great with my old school Juicy Couture dog tag.

It was a great afternoon out with fellow Charlestonians gathering local produce and supporting local businesses; but this heat, though! It. Was. Warning. Sign. Hot. Wear a dress, I thought. It’d be cooler, I thought.

But I was cute, so that’s a W in the ‘Pros’ section of my day. And that’s all that matters.
