2018: Life+Style Goals and Improvements

Hey y’all, happy new year!

I’m not a “new year, new me” person but I’m all about improving. It’s been about a year since I’ve knowingly stopped eating meat and this year I’m striving to improve my awareness. I’m also implementing more natural products into my lifestyle. I’ll hopefully be doing more reviews of the natural products I try. I’m not trying to sway anyone to my way of life, but maybe I can answer questions or ease the skepticism of anyone who may be on the fence.

One of the things I hope to accomplish this year is to visit more vegetarian/pescatarian/vegan friendly restaurants in Charleston. I’m all about trying new things, so this should be a fun goal to fulfill. This weekend I visited the new location of one of my favorite places–Dellz on the Macon! Dellz is family owned and operated and has some of the best food I’ve ever had. They serve up a great combination of good, healthy food with robust flavor. It’s feel good food with friends because it’s a small and cozy environment.

Ireana of XOXO, I. Joelle and I had a great meeting over their Dellz Nachos (with meatless meat crumbles).

This was her first time trying Dellz and I think I’ve got her addicted to their fresh, vegan chocolate chip cookies. Those cookies are honestly heaven on earth!

We also ran into the homie, KJ Kearney, who dropped some real business knowledge. This year needs to be more about coming together, finding, and securing all the bags we can. Shout out to KJ’s mom, Miss Karen, for also putting us on to some new ways to put ourselves out there!

Dellz on the Macon really is full of magic. It’s a melting pot of good food, good music, good people, and good vibes. Pay what you can and pay it forward–they’re all about putting good karma out into the universe. The Macon couldn’t have gained a better new gathering place.

What would this outing and this post be without outfit details? I finally got a chance to break out my new dress from the Tracee Ellis Ross for JC Penney collection! Amazing fit and quality and I’m so sad the collection isn’t permanent! My wardrobe needs more from Tracee!

What I’m Wearing: Overalls and Oxfords

Guess what? Overalls are back! They’re what’s big for the current season and for summer and although this blog isn’t extremely big on trends as they’re here one minute and gone the next, it’s okay to make exceptions every once and awhile.

When I think of overalls, I think back to my eighth grade year of middle school when Crucial Conflict and Tommy Hilfiger were big. When everyone wanted to be Aaliyah and FILA was as hot as Nike. When bubble down coats and wrap around sunglasses were a thing. When it was Tupac vs Biggie and you felt you didn’t have to pick one in the midst of the East Coast/West Coast beef because you were in the South and darn it you just liked their music.

We wore uniforms that year and I remember Crucial Conflict’s “Hay” video showed them all wearing overalls with one strap undone and the entire eighth grade class decided that one day when we could dress down, this would be our look.

That was the last time I wore overalls–somewhere between 1995 and 1996. I’d been secretly pining for them to make a return and here I am nearly 19 years later trying to evolve my eighth grade look!

These overalls are from Abercrombie & Fitch and were on sale for $29! If you’ve ever been inside of an A&F then you’d know these were a steal (as the original price was around $98). I tried to casually dress it up with a boyfriend cardigan and tank–both from Target, totaling no more than $28. The tan and pink oxfords are also from Target and were $20.

Today’s outfit cost around $80–that’s overalls, cardigan, tank, and shoes!

My accessories are a mix from Juicy Couture (crown studs and adjustable dog tag lariat), Alex & Ani (bangles), and Forever 21 (pearl studs) and although they’re a bit more costly I get my money’s worth as they’re practical and worn almost daily.

Want to get in on this trend?

Dressed up: Try pairing skinny overalls in a dark or black denim wash with a crisp white button down and a pair of heels. Add an oversized clutch and large hoop earrings.

Dressed down: Try pairing boyfriend overalls with a cropped tee and a pair of low top sneakers. Add a crossbody bag and play up or down with arm and/or ear candy.

If you’re ready to jump on the overalls trend, Hollister has theirs on sale for $20.98! Wanna show off how you’re rocking this trend? Just send pix and outfit details (where you purchased and how much) to lookfabuless@gmail.com 😉
